The Many Lands Many People Collection tells the important stories of Australia's Black History through my eyes.
One which I want to acknowledge.
It tells the stories of the ongoing impacts of colonization, and how heavily, our Aboriginal communities, families and people continue to be impacted by a western system of invasion
It also tells of the many Indigenous Lands from all over the world, that have also been stolen, creating a significant time of change for our families, a time where the sickness spread from the sea to the land when settlers came
Different from our people, where we would carry the sickness from the Land to the Sea to let it wash away, but them fullas, they did bring with them many sicknesses that have never left
But they still came to settle in a Country already Inhabited, by our mob, mob everywhere from many different country, the ORIGINAL people of this land!
Them fullas, they came in such numbers bringing with them destruction in epic proportions, they bought with them food we had not eaten, food that would eventually make us sick, this food they call sugar, it would bring with it great sickness t, taking away our vision if we ate too much, and then making us sick with this thing they call diabetes.
And this diabetes, it would take from us our limbs, our feet they did burn, and the color it did change, and this sugar they give us, we did not know!
The Many Lands Many People Jacket by Koori Threads tells the continuing story of how our families continue to be impacted today in 2024 some 200 years later, needing more health treatment, creating more sickness, more disability, how we as people continue to walk in isolation while our history remains untold, but this is just one part of that story!
